About

We are a nonprofit organization working to raise awareness about shark conservation with a focus on the Clearwater and St. Petersburg areas. Our research is predominately focused on sharks but will also include species that directly impact shark populations as well. We will discuss shark behaviorisms, migration patterns, pupping grounds, shark anatomy, and physiology as well as the role sharks play on marine ecosystems and why it is imperative that we do all we can to help promote their protection of them and end senseless shark finning and unnecessary killing of sharks due to untrue stereotypes

Data Mining and its Effects on Shark Bioloy

Big Data companies play a huge role in spreading information fast. Many scientific organizations typically rely heavily on this large outreach Big Data has on social media users. People who often interact with shark and conservation-related media will often be the first to see an ad about petitions, volunteer work, donating, etc. Some common examples are:

  • Ads promoting shark conservation organizations that allow people to get involved, make donations, etc.

  • Tagging sharks and uploading live feed, allowing users to track sharks all along the coast, including Florida where users receive alerts of the movement of sharks in their area. This particular software allows people to track the shark's location based on satellite tags that ping the shark's location, speed, and depth in which the shark is traveling. Osearch has a phenomenal shark tracker which will be linked below.

  • Data miners allow for widespread analysis and information on shark conservation and information about sharks in the south Florida region such as migration patterns, pupping ground sites, and the water temperature and current patterns.

  • Data miners facilitate software such as petition.org and gofundme which allow users to donate to shark conservation organizations and sign petitions such as the one linked below:
